Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona

Reinventing tradition since 1918

In the heart of Barcelona, right on Paseo de Gracia, is one of the most emblematic buildings in the city: Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona. Opened in 1918, it is today a benchmark of elegant and timeless style, typical of the most prestigious international hotels.

During its more than one hundred years, the Majestic, owned by the Soldevila-Casals family, has witnessed important political, cultural and historical events that have given it its own imprint and personality, which is reflected in every little detail of luxury and comfort.

A Legacy of Timeless Hospitality

More Than a Century of Barcelona's History

pened in 1918 as the Majestic Hotel Inglaterra, the hotel took its place on Barcelona’s prestigious Passeig de Gràcia just as the boulevard was emerging as the city’s most elegant address. As Barcelona grew into a vibrant cultural and cosmopolitan capital, the Majestic became a distinguished meeting place, welcoming royalty, artists, intellectuals and international travellers. Over the decades, Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona has remained closely connected to the city’s cultural and artistic life. Its guests have included writers, poets, painters and performers such as Antonio Machado, Federico García Lorca, Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Josephine Baker, Renata Tebaldi and Ernest Hemingway. During the Spanish Civil War, the hotel also became an important meeting place for international correspondents, an episode that forms part of its enduring historical legacy. In December 2014, the hotel joined The Leading Hotels of the World, marking a new chapter in its history and affirming its place among the world’s leading independent luxury hotels. Today, the Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona continues to honour its heritage while defining the next chapter of luxury hospitality.

Majestic, The Hotel of The Arts

A collection of more than 1,000 works of art to discover throughout your stay.

With a private collection of more than 1,000 works, art holds an essential place in the Majestic’s identity. This longstanding connection was further strengthened by the New Art exhibitions held at the hotel in 1996 and 1997, which introduced contemporary artistic trends to a broader audience and established the Majestic as a meeting place within Barcelona’s cultural scene.

Today, works by artists such as Antoni Tàpies, Eduardo Chillida, Antonio Saura, Jaume Plensa, Anish Kapoor, and Richard Long are displayed throughout the hotel. Spanning different movements, styles, and generations, the collection transforms each space into an expression of art and culture.

During your stay, we invite you to explore the Majestic and discover a collection designed to be contemplated and enjoyed.
